Extra Curriculum

Extra-curricular activities

We provide a wealth of extra-curricular activities.

We have a regular programme of physical activities which we rotate for different age groups and is run usually by our sports coach from S4K for a small fee.  Clubs have included archery, dance, multi-skills, gymnastics, football, footsal, nerf gun, and athletics but we are constantly changing our offer.    Other providers may run other clubs throughout the year.  Our aim with these clubs is for children to enjoy physical activity without the pressure of competition.  Please see the link below for our latest clubs.

For those that show talent in sports however, we do engage in inter and intra school competitions too. We are keen to enter as many tournaments as we can, and many of the children compete at borough level.  Where possible, we will hold trials and/or run practice sessions.  Our own staff organise and run these teams and we have had lots of success in recent years.  We also enter tournaments for children with SEND when possible.

We have a very active choir which performs at Young Voices, church events and other venues in our community.  Instrument tuition is available from the Schools Music Service and Rocksteady Music School.  Other clubs may be organised by staff and these will be advertised on ParentApps.

Our trips for classes are organised throughout the year to give children from Reception to Year 6 a full range of experiences.  Primarily, we aim for three trips a year which will fall into three main areas: a place of worship which will support their work in RE; an arts based trip which aims to give children a wider cultural experience than they may already have and another topic based trip.  Year 6 also have a residential trip.  Whilst there may be other visits during the year or visitors to school which we will run if we think there is an opportunity for real learning to take place, we are aware of costs for parents too.

Extra revision sessions for Y6 are held after school in the run up to SATs.

We are always on the lookout for other activities for our children to take part in so if you know of a club or activity group that we could host, please get in touch with the School Office.

See below for our links to Rocksteady Music and our latest S4K sports clubs.  Other clubs will either be advertised on ParentApps (or via paper forms sometimes if they are an external provider)

RockSteady!

Rock Steady Music School

In the film ‘School of Rock’, Jack Black teaches a group of school children to perform as a rock band! Here at Rock Seady Music School, we have developed a unique teaching methodology which teaches children to play songs they love in their own band, whilst building confidence, teamwork, resilience and listening skills. They get real gig experience too – performing in a concert at the end of each term.

  • Learn to play in a band

Learning an instrument should be fun. Your child can choose from the electric guitar, keyboard, drums or vocals and enjoy playing in a happy, supportive environment with their friends.

  • From first notes to favourite songs

The Rocksteady Primary Programme is for all children aged 4-11 and is proven to progress musicianship, confidence and teamwork skills with no prior experience necessary.

  • Lead by real musicians

Your child’s music teacher should also be their role model. Which is why all Rocksteady Band Leaders are carefully chosen, extensively trained musicians who know how to inspire a life-long love of playing music.

  • With regular live performances

Playing on stage is a huge confidence booster. With termly concerts at school assemblies, your child will be able to show off their progress to friends, teachers and parents with the rest of their band.

  • In school time

Lessons are 30 minutes long and take place in school time with all instruments provided, making it hassle-free for parents.

  • And happily affordable

Priced at just £31.25 per month, Rocksteady is one of the most hassle-free ways to learn an instrument on a rolling subscription that you can cancel at any time. It’s risk free too – cancel in the first month and you’ll get a full refund.

Rehearse At Home!

‘Rehearse at home’ is the exciting new Rocksteady distance learning programme available to all subscribers through the online learning portal. So whilst school lessons can’t take place, music can still be a regular part of your child’s week.

To start with there will be:

  • Weekly audio and video lessons at different levels to suit your child  across drums, keyboard, guitar and vocals
  • Guidance for parents, so that you can help your child get the best out of rehearsing at home
  • Lesson pathways for those with or without instruments so that nobody misses out
  • Bonus content including a range of fun, musical activities to suit all levels of learning.

Choir

Choir

We have a very active choir at Brook Lodge.  Children from Year 3 to Year 6 are able to join the choir.  In the past we have performed at the local church, retirement homes, at the Rainford Christmas Fayre as well as within school.  Each year, the choir also performs at the AO Arena in Manchester along with thousands of other children at the Young Voices concert which is hugely popular.

Schools Music Service

Schools Music Service

We are delighted to let you know that The Schools Music Service will be returning to provide instrumental music tuition in your school from this term onwards.
We currently offer classes on guitar, keyboard and violin in school, in small group half hour sessions, during the school day.
It is our belief that music greatly enriches the life of a child, both academically and socially.

If you would like more information about classes here is a link to our website where you can see how everything works – www.schoolsmusicservice.co.uk

If you know what instrument your child would like to learn, or you have learned with us before, you can register for classes on our website and I will sort everything out for you.
Please watch our short video for more information.

Also, if your child has had music tuition with us in the previous academic year, please ensure that you have made a new application for this year’s tuition to put them back onto the teacher’s pupil list.

Our teachers are extremely excited to be coming back to your school and we look forward to meeting you all soon.
