Welcome to Reception!
It is such a privilege to be working in such a wonderful school and I cannot wait to help your child blossom and fulfil their potential. I believe in providing children with learning experiences that they will remember for years to come. I am an advocate for learning through play and cannot wait to share all the fun with you. The fun has already begun and the children are eager and enthusiastic to learn.
“Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.” Dr Seuss.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Our topic this half term is ‘Marvellous Me’ but before we embark on this exciting journey, we are firstly going to develop and secure friendships; learn how to look after each other; show respect to each other and our environment whilst also understand how MAGIC we are! This half term, we will focus on learning new routines and developing independence too.
Literacy
In Literacy, we will be listening to lots of different stories about starting school. These stories include, ‘The Colour Monster Goes to School’; ‘Harry and the Dinosaurs go to School’; ‘Come to School Blue Kangaroo’ and ‘I am absolutely too small for School.’ Our main focus will also be learning how to hold our pencil correctly, practising daily when writing our name.
Additionally, we will also be learning the ‘Owl Babies’ story off by heart, using actions to help us whilst following a story map.
To promote questioning, communication and Language, we will introuce ‘Chatter Time’ so grown-ups, watch out as there will soon be a question a fortnight to explore with your child.
Mathematics
During our Maths lessons, we will be learning number through rhyme and exploring numbers 1-5. We will practise touching objects when finding a total as well as trying to match a number to its quantity.
Please keep checking our class Twitter page @HodkinsonRBL to see what we have been up to. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
