Our first text is 'The Owl who was afraid of the dark'. This is a fun story about bravery, resilience and independence.

Writing opportunities include:

Plan or say out loud what is going to be written about

Use punctuation correctly – full stops, capital letters, commas in a list, apostrophe for contractions and omission, question marks and exclamtion marks

Use expanded noun phrases to describe and specify

Use subordination (because) and coordination (and)

Use paragrpahs correctly to organise ideas

Use a range of openers and conjunctions, includng and, but,so, that, if

Children will have opportuniteis to describe characters and settings. They will also use their own imagination to substitute characters and events.

The assessed task will be to creat a non-chronological report about owls.
