Our text this half term is 'Grandad's Secret Giant' by David Litchfield. This is a story with a moral message about keeping secrets and acceptance.
Writing opportunities include:
Plan or say out loud what is going to be written about
Use punctuation correctly – full stops, capital letters, question marks and exclamtion sentences
Use expanded noun phrases to describe and specify
Use subordination (because) and coordination (and)
Using persuasive devices and language
Use paragrpahs correctly to organise ideas
Use a range of openers and conjunctions, includng and, but,so, that, if
Children will have opportuniteis to describe characters and settings. They will also use their own imagination to substitute characters and events.
The assessed task will be to retell their own version of the story, including the moral of acceptance. Some children may include the point of view of the giant.
