Welcome to Reception 

Autumn 1

A very warm welcome to all of our children, parents and families. We are delighted to begin this exciting journey together and look forward to working in partnership with you throughout the year as your children grow, learn and flourish. 

Starting school is a very special milestone for both children and their families. We are excited to be your child's first teachers and feel privileged to support them as they take their first steps in education. Together, we will nurture happy, confident learners who feel safe, valued and ready to explore the world around them.

Everything we do in Reception links closely to our school ethos of developing MAGIC Children: Motivated, Aspirational, Growing in Independence and Confidence. We nurture children who are motivated learners, aspiring to achieve their very best and continually growing in confidence and independence. 

Learning Through Play 

The Early Years Foundation Stage recognises that young children learn best through meaningful experiences, exploration and play. Much of our learning takes place through carefully planned play opportunities that encourage children to investigate, create, problem solve, communicate and develop their imagination. 

Our Half Term Focus: Marvellous Me 

Children will learn about who is in their family, celebrate what makes each family unique and explore different types of houses and homes. We will spend time talking about feelings, recognising emotions in ourselves and others, and discussing what helps us feel happy, safe and supported. The children will also have opportunities to share their interests and begin building friendships within our Reception family. 

Our Main Focus 

The most important thing for us at the beginning of the year is that every child feels happy, secure and ready to come into school each day. We understand that starting school can bring mixed emotions for both children and parents, and we are here to support every family through this transition. During the first few weeks, we will focus on establishing friendships, learning classroom routines, understanding expectations and helping children become familiar with how we learn in Reception. As confidence grows, so too will their independence, resilience and love of learning.

Homework Expectations

Homework is not expected in Reception until we are well established in our routines.  We will send a message home when we are ready to send reading books and pleasure books home with your child.  In the meantime, please feel free to talk to your child about what they have already done and before school starts on a Monday we will try to ensure that we send a message with a brief outline of what we will cover in the week.  This is an ideal opportunity to have conversations with your children about their learning in school.

Timetabling

PE – Children will take part in PE every Friday.  Please come in to school wearing PE kits on this day according to school policy.  

Information and resources to support wellbeing can be found on our school website under the Key Information section. We encourage you to explore these materials whenever you need guidance or support.

If you have any behaviour concerns or wish to make a complaint, please refer to the relevant policies in the Policy section of our school website or follow the link provided. These documents outline the correct procedures and explain the support available.
