Timetabling
AUTUMN 2
PE lessons are on a Monday and a Tuesday. Children are required to come in to school in their full PE kits on these or they will not be allowed to participate in the lesson. If there are reasons why your child cannot take part in these lessons, a written note must detail the reasons why.
Miss Greaves will have her time out of class on Monday. Lessons will be taken by Miss Zarain (MFL teacher from Rainford High), Mr Moore, Miss Davenport and St Helen's Music instrumental staff.
For those children who participate in small group brass tuition, these lessons take place on a Thursday morning. Children should bring their instruments to school on this day and then take them home again to practise using their Charanga logins. RockSteady, for those children we have signed up this year, will continue to be on a Wednesday afternoon. And finally, children who are members of the school choir, will meet on a Friday lunchtime at 12.30pm in the Year 4 classroom.
Homework Expectations
Spellings - Spelling patterns/rules are taught using the ‘Pathways to Spell’ scheme. Your child will bring home a spelling rule homework sheet every Friday with examples of spellings they will be taught the following week in class. Please explore these patterns/rules with your child and investigate words which follow this rule. They will also be given three ‘topic’ related words to learn as well as two words which they have found difficult to spell in their work. These will be personal to your child according to their needs. Children will be tested on their spellings every Friday afternoon.
Reading - Your child will have a levelled (or free reader book) and pleasure book. Your children needs to read their levelled (or free reader) reading books at least 4 times a week at home for around 15-20 minutes. Reading records need to be signed by an adult, including the date and numbers of pages read. If your child has finished the book, please indicate this so it can be changed.
We also encourage children to read books for pleasure with you at home. These can be borrowed from school or can be books/magazines you have at home. Reading before bedtime is a lovely way to wind down after a busy day and allows for precious bonding time with your child. Please let us know what books your have enjoyed reading together using the book list pages in your child’s reading record. Click on the link below to access the Y4 50 recommended reads.
Times Tables - The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a key stage 2 assessment to be taken by pupils at the end of Year 4 (in June). The MTC’s purpose is to ensure the times tables knowledge is at the expected level. The multiplication tables check (MTC) is statutory for primary schools.
The Multiplication Times Tables Check is an online test where the pupils are asked 25 questions on times tables 2 to 12. For every question, you have 6 seconds to answer, and in between the questions, there is a 3-second rest. Questions about the 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 times table come up more often. The questions are generated randomly based on the rules of the MTC.
Please access Times Tables Rockstars at least 3 times a week to practise these (link below). Children are required to complete 40 minutes of a 'Garage' session per week. This knowledge will support them in their arithmetic skills. Children's log in details are located in the front of their reading records. If you need a reminder of your child’s login details, please ask a member of staff and we can send this home. There is also a link below for Maths Frame which will also help children to prepare for their Multiplication Tables Check.
Children will complete an arithmentic test every Friday morning. Children will also complete a times tables test every Friday afternoon.
PLEASE NOTE THAT IF 4 READS AND/OR 40 MINUTES OF TT ROCKSTARS IS NOT COMPLETE EACH WEEK, CHILDREN WILL STAY IN DURING A BREAKTIME TO CATCH UP ON MISSED TIME.
