Class Teacher: Miss R Burke
Learning Support Assistant: Miss Millington
We are delighted to welcome you to our Year 4 class page. Here you’ll find important information about our learning, upcoming events, and the exciting activities taking place in our classroom. Year 4 is a wonderful time for children to grow in confidence, develop new skills, and explore the world around them with curiosity and enthusiasm.
We hope this page helps you stay connected with your child’s learning journey and feel part of our busy, happy classroom.
At our school, we believe in the power of MAGIC:
✨ Motivated learners who take pride in their effort
✨ Aspirational thinkers who aim high
✨ Growing in independence as they prepare for the next stage
✨ Confidence to try, persevere and succeed
Throughout the year, your children will be encouraged to embody these values in all they do—both in their learning and in their personal development. Together, we will support them to shine and to leave Year 4 feeling ready, responsible and proud of their achievements.
We’re excited for the journey ahead and look forward to a fantastic year working with you and your children.
Here you’ll find key information about timetables, homework and your child’s learning (using the tabs above). If you have any questions, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment. Please note that we operate a 48-hour response policy for emails and phone calls.
If you have any concerns regarding behaviour or wish to raise a complaint, please refer to the relevant policies available in the Policy section of our school website or follow this link. These policies outline the procedures to follow and the support available.
Information and support for wellbeing can be found on our school website under the Key Information section. We encourage you to explore these resources if you need guidance or support.
Homework Expectations
Reading - Your child will have a levelled (or free reader book) and pleasure book. Your children needs to read their levelled (or free reader) reading books at least 4 times a week at home for around 15-20 minutes. Reading records need to be signed by an adult, including the date and numbers of pages read. If your child has finished the book, please indicate this so it can be changed.
ATOM - For ATOM homework, children are set 20 Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) questions each week. The tasks are tailored to your child’s individual level, with the question difficulty automatically adjusting based on how well they are doing. This means the homework is personalised and provides just the right level of challenge.
Times Tables - The Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) is a key stage 2 assessment to be taken by pupils at the end of Year 4 (in June). The MTC’s purpose is to ensure the times tables knowledge is at the expected level. The multiplication tables check (MTC) is statutory for primary schools.
The Multiplication Times Tables Check is an online test where the pupils are asked 25 questions on times tables 2 to 12. For every question, you have 6 seconds to answer, and in between the questions, there is a 3-second rest. Questions about the 6, 7, 8, 9, and 12 times table come up more often. The questions are generated randomly based on the rules of the MTC.
Please access Times Tables Rockstars at least 3 times a week to practise these (link below). Children are required to complete 40 minutes of a 'Garage' session per week. This knowledge will support them in their arithmetic skills. Children's log in details are located in the front of their reading records. If you need a reminder of your child’s login details, please ask a member of staff and we can send this home. There is also a link below for Maths Frame which will also help children to prepare for their Multiplication check.
For futher information regarding homework, please refer to our Homework Learning Policy.
