 Seal Surfer by Michael Foreman

Seal Surfer is a story about a young person who develops a special connection with the sea and its wildlife. The main character is fascinated by surfing and spends a great deal of time near the ocean, where they discover the excitement, beauty and dangers of the natural world. During their adventures, they encounter a seal, and this meeting becomes an important part of the story.

As the relationship between the surfer and the seal develops, the main character begins to understand that wild animals should be respected rather than controlled. The seal represents freedom and the untamed power of nature, while the sea provides both adventure and challenges. The character learns important lessons about courage, responsibility and friendship through their experiences in the water.

The story also explores the idea that humans and animals can have meaningful connections, even though they live very different lives. The main character becomes more aware of the importance of protecting the ocean and respecting the creatures that live there. Their experiences help them grow in confidence and maturity.

Overall, Seal Surfer is an exciting and thoughtful story about adventure, nature and the bond between a young surfer and a wild seal. My Headteacher is a vampire rat! by Pamela Butchart

My Headteacher Is a Vampire Rat by Pamela Butchart is a funny children’s story about a group of pupils who become convinced that their strange new headteacher is actually a vampire rat. The story follows Izzy and her friends as they notice increasingly suspicious things about the headteacher’s behaviour. Instead of believing that there must be a normal explanation, they begin investigating and imagining all kinds of bizarre possibilities.

The children are especially worried because the new headteacher seems mysterious and frightening. As their suspicions grow, everyday events at school start to look like evidence that something supernatural is happening. Izzy and her friends decide they need to uncover the truth and protect themselves and the rest of the school. Their investigation leads to plenty of misunderstandings, chaotic situations and humorous moments.

Throughout the book, Pamela Butchart uses exaggerated ideas and the children’s imaginative way of thinking to make the story entertaining. The pupils often jump to dramatic conclusions, showing how easily rumours and fears can grow when people do not know the full truth. Friendship is also an important theme, as Izzy and her friends work together and support each other during their adventure.

Overall, My Headteacher Is a Vampire Rat is a humorous and imaginative story about friendship, school life, mystery and the power of imagination. It shows how ordinary situations can become extraordinary when seen through the eyes of children, while keeping the reader entertained with its silly characters, surprises and absurd events.
