Autumn 1 

In Science, Year 1 will be learning all about themselves as part of our Animals Including Humans: All About Me unit.

The children will identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body and explore the five senses: sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. They will investigate which parts of the body are associated with each sense and take part in simple practical activities to explore how we use our senses to find out about the world around us.

Through observation, discussion and investigation, the children will develop their scientific vocabulary and begin to ask and answer simple questions about their bodies and senses. This learning will support the children in developing the scientific skills of observing closely, identifying, classifying and carrying out simple tests.
