⚙️ Design & Technology: Mechanical Systems – Automata Toys
In this Kapow Design & Technology unit, children explore the exciting world of mechanical systems by designing and creating their own automata toys 🎠.
Pupils investigate how simple mechanisms such as cams, followers, and axles ⚙️ can be used to create movement. They study existing automata toys, explore how they work, and experiment with different designs before planning and building their own.
Throughout the unit, children develop key DT skills including problem-solving, precision, and creativity ✏️. They learn how ideas move from design to prototype, testing and improving their work as they go.
By the end of the unit, each child produces a working automata toy 🎉, gaining confidence in using tools safely and understanding how engineering and design shape the world around us.
