⚡ Year 6 Science: Electricity
This term, Year 6 will be exploring the exciting world of electricity using the Developing Experts science scheme.
We will investigate how electrical circuits work, explore different components and carry out practical experiments to discover how we can change the way a circuit behaves.
Our science lessons will encourage children to be curious, ask questions, make predictions, carry out investigations and use evidence to explain what they have discovered.
🔋 What will we be learning?
During our Electricity topic, we will:
- Identify and name the main components of an electrical circuit.
- Learn how to represent circuits using circuit symbols.
- Build and investigate different electrical circuits.
- Understand that a circuit needs to be complete for electricity to flow.
- Explore the role of cells, wires, switches, bulbs, buzzers and motors.
- Investigate how changing components can affect a circuit.
- Explore how the number of cells can affect the brightness of a bulb or the speed of a motor.
- Compare different circuits and make observations about what happens.
- Learn about conductors and insulators.
- Use our knowledge to explain why some materials allow electricity to flow and others do not.
